Webb has a long history on the links. Both VWS and WSC field teams and compete in match play. WSC’s golf program has won the league championship five times, most recently in 2017. The VWS golf program began in 2014. The team placed second in league in 2019.
Prior to accepting the VWS golf coaching job, Coach Owers coached cross country and track & field for both VWS and WSC. Owers also coached girls cross country in Phoenix, Arizona before his time at Webb. This season, Owers says that qualifying for CIF tournament is well within reach for our VWS golfers.
The team has a solid amount of experience and leadership with Angie Zhang, Petrina Ong, Lauren Duffy and Leia Albornoz returning.
“Recognizing individual abilities and talents and then encouraging individuals to use them selflessly for the benefit of their teammates is something I like to focus on as a coach,” Owers said.
Fairmont and West Covina are set to be the team’s toughest opponents this season.
Andrew Neyer has a great love for golf and enjoys the opportunity to work with students outside the classroom.
