Coaching team

Prior to accepting the VWS golf coaching job, Coach Owers coached cross country and track & field for both VWS and WSC. Owers also coached girls cross country in Phoenix, Arizona before his time at Webb. This season, Owers says that qualifying for CIF tournament is well within reach for our VWS golfers.

The team has a solid amount of experience and leadership with Angie Zhang, Petrina Ong, Lauren Duffy and Leia Albornoz returning.

“Recognizing individual abilities and talents and then encouraging individuals to use them selflessly for the benefit of their teammates is something I like to focus on as a coach,” Owers said.

Fairmont and West Covina are set to be the team’s toughest opponents this season.

Andrew Neyer has a great love for golf and enjoys the opportunity to work with students outside the classroom. He previously assisted with the VWS golf team and has coached the WSC golf team for seven years. Neyer said he believes in building camaraderie and team spirit for golf. Neyer encourages his athletes to focus on the mental side of golf through reflection and learning from mistakes.

He attended Miami University, earning degrees in math/statistics, music and secondary math education. Neyer has taught math at Webb since 2016. He is the Mathematics Department chair.

Steve Hebert is an assistant coach for the VWS golf team. He is also a humanities teacher at Webb.
