What is The Future of Learning? The Future of Learning is Webb’s strategic framework for its next era. It is organized around three priorities: designing a dynamic education for a new era, enhancing the boarding school experience for all students, and leading from California.
How was the framework developed? The framework grew from more than two years of research, discussion, and community engagement. The process included site visits, work groups, design sprints, community outreach, and opportunities for student feedback.
Who participated in the process? Trustees, school leaders, faculty, staff, students, parents, alumni, educators, and other members of the Webb community contributed ideas and perspectives.
Where can I read the full framework? The complete strategic framework is available for download here: Download the Framework.
Timeline and Implementation
What was the planning timeline? The planning process began in 2024. Research, site visits, outreach, work groups, and design sessions continued through 2025 and into 2026, followed by the framework’s public launch.
When will the initiatives be completed? The framework identifies priorities for the next five years. Some work is already underway, while other initiatives will require additional planning, testing, partnerships, funding, and campus development.
Which initiatives are already underway? Webb is already advancing work connected to academic innovation, emerging technology, interdisciplinary learning, facilities planning, student experience, and stronger connections to opportunities beyond campus.
How will Webb decide which initiatives come first? Priorities will be evaluated based on their impact on students, alignment with Webb’s mission, readiness for implementation, and available resources.
How will progress be measured? Progress will be reflected through program launches, partnerships, campus improvements, student and faculty participation, and ongoing community updates.
Programs and Student Experience
Will the framework change the academic program immediately? Not all at once. Some ideas may begin as pilots, new courses, design projects, or expanded learning opportunities before becoming permanent parts of the program.
What role will the Alf Museum play? The Raymond M. Alf Museum of Paleontology will remain central to Webb’s academic program and a model for student research, field study, and learning by doing.
Where will updates be posted? Updates on progress, programs, partnerships, milestones, and community stories will be shared through Webb’s email communications, social media channels, news posts on webb.org, and WEBB Magazine.
Giving and Participation
How will The Future of Learning be funded? Bringing the framework to life will require thoughtful institutional planning, partnerships, and philanthropic support. Gifts may help advance priorities such as financial aid, faculty development, academic programs, student experiences, technology, residential life, facilities, partnerships, and the Alf Museum.
